Family win fight to get four-year-old to Singapore for cancer treatment

A Sydney family has raised enough money to get their four-year-old son treatment for leukemia in Singapore.

Max has been battling cancer for three years and now specialists have told the family his best chance for treatment is not available in Australia but he could go to Singapore.

Max's godmother Nicola Johnson told Mark Levy on 2GB's Ben Fordham Live this morning they had raised $134,000 of the $150,000 needed.

After a call out to 2GB listeners for help, the total is now more than $160,000.

Johnson told the program that Max is a "superhero" and a "pillar of strength".

"You would not look at him most days and think that he's a sick kid because his spirit is just so high and strong," Johnson said.

"His family have remained absolutely unified on the path of just getting him well."

Max had a range of treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and a bone marrow transplant since he was one.

"He's gone through some insane procedures that no child should ever have to go through in order to try and free himself from cancer," she said.

"So Singapore is where we believe to have the soonest availability for the type of treatment he needs."

As the treatment is not in Australia so the family can not access any subsidies.

The treatment is due to start in June.
