The federal government has been urged not to send a group of asylum-seeker women and children back to Nauru ahead of a High Court ruling.
The court on Wednesday will determine the legality of Australia's role in the Nauru immigration detention centre.
"I call on the prime minister today, please, use a bit of heart, a bit of commonsense and ensure these children and their families can stay here in Australia," Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young told reporters in Canberra.
