ABC current affair presenter Leigh Sales has called out Twitter trolls who have launched "sexist" and "disgusting" attacks on social media towards her throughout the election campaign.

Ms Sales, who hosts 7.30, shared some of the completely inappropriate tweets directed at her after last night's interview with Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

"Let me call out the river of disgusting, sexist and relentless abuse I've [received] on Twitter during this campaign with a handful of examples," Ms Sales tweeted.

Ms Sales is known for her no-nonsense interviewing style.

She commonly cuts off interviewees who do not answer her question and steer the conversation towards their own intended talking points - as she did last with Mr Shorten.

While questioning the Opposition Leader on Labor's Medicare policy, Ms Sales lost her patience with Mr Shorten, telling him to "wrap it up."
