Alleged drink-driver crashes into baby nursery of Adelaide home

A five-month-old baby had a lucky escape when a car crashed into its home in Adelaide's northeast.

The baby sleeps in a room at the front of the Hillcrest home but had not been put to bed when the accident happened about 6.30pm yesterday.

Other family members inside the Kelham Street home at the time of the crash were not injured.

The home suffered extensive damage, with part of a wall knocked down.

The learner driver behind the wheel of the Ford also escaped injury and was quickly arrested.

The 20-year-old Gawler man underwent a breath test and allegedly blew 0.120.

Police reported him for aggravated driving without due care, exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and breaching his learner’s permit conditions.

He instantly lost his licence for six months and will be summonsed to appear in court.

A female passenger in the car was uninjured, and police said she was not acting as a supervising driver.
