Top lawyers are poking holes in the federal government's plan to strip dual national terror suspects of Australian citizenship.

"On whose evidence are we going to rely? It's unlikely to work, it's certainly unfair, and it's unnecessary," Australian Lawyers Alliance spokesman Greg Barns told ABC radio, adding he believed there were still constitutional problems with the bill.

The parliamentary intelligence and security committee is set to examine the bill, to be introduced to parliament on Wednesday, and will consider whether the measures should be applied retrospectively.
