Lawyer slams prosecution over terror raids

The lawyer for two men netted during anti-terrorism raids in Sydney has accused the prosecution of trying to "poison" a magistrate's mind with new information.

Omar Ammouche, 33, was charged with two ammunition offences on Friday after counter-terrorism police allegedly found 50 shotgun shells in his Greenacre home.

On the same day, 21-year-old Jibryl Almaouie fronted a Sydney police station after a raid last month allegedly uncovered two shotguns, a rifle and ammunition in a Condell Park home.

The lawyer for Ammouche and Almaouie, who is charged with firearm offences, withdrew their bail applications in Bankstown Local Court on Monday.

Lawyer Adam Houda said the defence was served with new material at the last minute designed to "inflame a very basic situation" and weak prosecution case.

"This new material is just designed to do one thing and that is cheat and poison the mind of the magistrate," he said outside court.

Ammouche is expected to apply for bail on January 19 and Almaouie's case was adjourned to January 28.
