A Sydney lawyer could be facing time behind bars after being found guilty of attempting to scam a $700,000 compensation payout following a minor car crash.

Amadu Bangura was charged with attempting to dishonestly obtain an advantage by deception, following the accident which he says left him too traumatised to work.

However, police alleged the only damage was a dent to Mr Bangura's rear bumper.

Bangura claimed his white Ford Falcon was written off by the accident, but police surveillance shows him driving the car with no apparent issue after the accident.

In his submission to Allianz Insurance, Mr Bangura said he was suffering from a number of physical ailments following the accident, as well as from shock, anxiety and depression.

Outside court, Bangura told A Current Affair he felt "set up" by the insurance company.

"There is no wrong thing on my part, I have provided everything within my knowledge," he said.

"I have given everything, there is no form of deception whatsoever."

Lawyer Sam Macedone said he believed Bangura deserved jail time.

"I think anyone - everyone - should be angry," he said.

"It is not a victimless crime. The victims are each and every one of us that pays for our car insurances and pays for our green slips - we're the victims because we're paying for it."

Bangura will be sentenced on August 15.
