Late notice for train closures in Adelaide

Two train lines in Adelaide will be closed for night works from Monday, with the state's new transport minister coming under fire over the lack of notice to commuters.

Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan says the Seaford and Belair rail lines will be closed over several nights, and completely for a short period, over the upcoming school holidays to finish upgrades.

Mr Mullighan says while the closures are an inconvenience for train travellers, they are necessary to complete improvements to the rail networks.

He says the late notice is a result of having to finalise the schedule of works in a bid to minimise the length of the closures.

"We've tried to announce these as soon as we can," he said.

"We haven't been in a position to finalise the full schedule of closures until now."

However, opposition transport spokeswoman Vickie Chapman says there's no excuse for the late notice which disrespects the travelling public.

"To have a new minister come out and start his era with this type of secretive approach is completely unacceptable," Ms Chapman said.
