Labor seeks to help older Australians

LABOR'S POSITIVE AGEING STRATEGY

* By 2057, 22 per cent of Australians will be aged 65 or over

* Today 72,500 Australians aged between 55 and 64 are unemployed

* Jobs and Skills Australia (new agency) to examine specific issues of training and skills of Australians aged over 55, and improving and expanding the aged care workforce.

* Faster processing to access age pension

* Commitment to raise the superannuation guarantee to 12 per cent by 2025 (already in train, but under pressure to be scrapped)

* Addressing the superannuation imbalance between men and women

* Pensioner dental plan

* More dementia-friendly communities and spaces

* Better long-term planning to ensure transport networks, homes, shops and community facilities are accessible and fit for ageing

* Better pay for aged care workforce

* Aged care assessment won't be privatised
