Labor seeks Brandis diary notes

Labor has asked Attorney-General George Brandis to prove he has widely consulted on the same-sex marriage plebiscite.

Senator Brandis told the ABC on Wednesday he had met "many, many advocates" for marriage equality, and "most of the gay groups" he had met recognised the plebiscite was the surest and most immediate path to changing the law.

Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus has written to Senator Brandis seeking a redacted copy of his diary between August and this week setting out which meetings had been held with stakeholders on both sides of the marriage debate.
