Labor's digital spokesman quits Twitter

One of the Australian parliament's most active tweeters has quit the social media platform.

Labor's digital economy spokesman Ed Husic has deleted his Twitter account to focus instead on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Mr Husic, the MP for the NSW seat of Chifley, says he's not enjoying Twitter as much as he used to, and isn't finding it as useful in terms of communicating his message.

He said Facebook enables him to talk to local constituents while LinkedIn connects with people with an interest in his portfolio area.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull recently launched his LinkedIn "influencer" page which now has almost 40,000 followers and is routinely updated with articles and videos.

He also uses Facebook to show live video of his media events.
