Labor rolls out $44m Tas tourism spend

Federal Labor has swamped the coalition's funding commitment to Tasmania's tourism sector with $44 million spread across a number of projects and regions.

Opposition tourism spokesman Anthony Albanese was in Hobart on Friday to announce the package which will include $15 million - half the amount sought - for the Cradle Mountain master plan, along with $10 million to transform ex-HMAS Tobruk into a dive wreck off the northeast coast, and matching the coalition's pledge to finish the Three Capes Track.

The promise comes a day after Tourism Minister and Tasmanian senator Richard Colbeck announced $5 million from the coalition for Tassie tourism, including $1 million for the Cradle Mountain plan and $3.8 million to finish the Three Capes Track.
