Labor reshuffles ahead of Senate changes

South Australian MP Amanda Rishworth has been promoted to the Labor frontbench as part of a reshuffle caused by the Senate changeover.

Ms Rishworth becomes assistant education spokeswoman in a host of changes announced by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten on Tuesday.

She replaces fellow South Australian Don Farrell on the Labor frontbench.

He lost his seat in the upper house at last year's election and won't be in parliament after June 30.

Frontbenchers David Feeney and Joel Fitzgibbon have been given additional responsibilities, while Lisa Singh, Graham Perrett and Nick Champion were named parliamentary secretaries.

Mr Shorten used an address to caucus to pay tribute to Labor's other outgoing senators John Hogg, Louise Pratt, Lin Thorp, Ursula Stephens, Mehmet Tillem, Mark Furner and Mark Bishop.

"Each and every one of these senators has helped write a chapter in the Labor story," he said.

The caucus was also told MPs will be allowed to exercise a conscience vote on a Greens die-with-dignity bill.
