Labor quizzed on welfare cut hypocrisy

Federal Labor has brushed off suggestions of hypocrisy by calling on the government to abandon cuts to family tax benefits.

The opposition says single parents will be especially hurt by the cuts, but families spokeswoman Jenny Macklin had to acknowledge Labor in government cut parenting payments when quizzed by reporters on Thursday.

"We've made it clear that was too harsh," Ms Macklin said.
