Labor, Libs guilty of late declarations

ALTHOUGH THE MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH DECLARING THEIR DONATIONS, IS IT A CASE OF BETTER LATE THAN NEVER?

* In May 2012, the NSW Liberals amended their electoral commission declaration adding more than $200,000 in previously undisclosed donations.

* In August 2013, Joe Hockey declared a company directorship held by his wife since 1998.

* The NSW Liberals in April 2014 declared a four-year-old donation of $25,000 from the Warringah Club in Tony Abbott's electorate.

* In November 2013 the Canberra Liberals lodged $80,000 in returns, some dating back a year, beyond the required 30 days.

* In May 2014, the ALP and Liberals in NSW updated more than $100,000 in previously undeclared donations.

* In 2012, almost $350,000 in donations to the ALP were declared by the companies that made them but not by the party itself. In the same period $750,000 was disclosed by companies as donations to the Liberals but not declared by the party.

* Shadow health spokeswoman Bronwyn Bishop had a staff member in 1994 paid for by the health insurance industry, which triggered a revision in the "gift" rules.
