A new poll shows Labor leading the coalition, but the government has found a winning policy in its drug testing of welfare recipients.

The Sky News ReachTel poll released on Thursday gives Labor a 52-48 two-party lead over the coalition, with the opposition's primary vote on 34 per cent and the coalition 32 per cent.

Asked about the government's plan to trial drug testing of welfare recipients, 68 per cent of voters supported it.
