Labor guarantees cash for all schools

Labor has enshrined government funding for private schools in its national platform.

The draft platform initially dropped a reference to guaranteeing public funding to private schools as well as government ones, but Senator Deb O'Neill and NSW upper house member Greg Donnelly, both from the party's right, successfully changed it to ensure money would still flow.

The party has also maintained an explicit commitment to giving parents the right to choose to send their children to private schools and recommitted to the Gonski system of needs-based, sector-blind funding.
