NSW Deputy Labor leader Prue Car takes leave for kidney cancer treatment
New South Wales deputy Labor leader and Member for Londonderry Prue Car announced today she has been diagnosed with kidney cancer.
The MP said in a statement that she will take leave over the coming weeks for treatment.
"Following recent tests, I was found to have a large tumour on my kidney," Car revealed.

"It would be no surprise to you all that this has come as quite a shock.
"I am deeply grateful to have access to the world class health care we are so lucky to have in Australia as I receive treatment."
Car acknowledged the "hard working, compassionate skilled but overworked doctors, nurses and allied health professionals" that are set to guide her through this time.
"I look forward to being back out and about soon fighting for our community," Car said.

The Labor MP encouraged anyone concerned about their health to contact their doctor.
"Early detection is key in the treatment of any cancer," she said.
According to Australia's Cancer Council, more than 4300 Australian men and women are diagnosed with kidney cancer each year, with the five-year survival rate sitting at 79 per cent.
