Moving beyond a corrupt past central to ALP, Liberal state party meetings

Premier Mike Baird and Opposition leader John Robertson both received heroes welcomes from their respective armies at state party meetings today.

For the Premier, the Liberal Party State Council marks 100 days since he stepped up to the top job.

But it hasn't been an easy ride, with ICAC investigations into slush funds and a series of illegal donations made to Liberal MPs.

Mr Baird today announced a new committee headed up by former Premier John Fahey which will oversee the Liberal Party's finances until the next election

Across town - the ALP's state conference was more of a family affair, with Mr Robertson's grandson Liam stealing the show.

But once again corruption was on the agenda.

"Today I announce that under a Labor government, third-party lobbyists will be banned from meeting with ministers their staff and departments," Mr Robertson said. 

Eight hundred delegates backed a motion to ban seven controversial former Labor members from ever rejoining the party, including Eddie Obeid,  Ian Macdonald, Joe Tripodi and his former staffer Ann Wills, Tony Kelly, Craig Thomson and Michael Williamson.
