Kyrgios fumes over crowd distraction during US Open clash with Andy Murray

Controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios has let fly at an umpire after fans entered the stadium during the fifth game of his match with Andy Murray at the US Open.

Kyrgios claimed he had been distracted by the crowd noise when crowd members wandered into the stadium with the score 15-0 before he subsequently lost the game.

He confronted the chair umpire at the end of the game while Murray sat in his courtside chair.

The rant prompted Fox Sports commentator and tennis great John Newcombe to defend Kyrgios, pointing to the fact that fans are not allowed to enter stadiums during a live game until a break in play.

But co-commentator Wally Masur questioned why tennis should be any different from other sports, where crowd noise is an accepted part of the occasion.

Kyrgios later went on to lose the first set 7-5.

Shortly after his rant to the umpire, Kyrgios showed his penchant for flair, producing a brilliant between the legs shot to retrieve a lob from Murray in the seventh game and then turned the save into a winner.

Trailing 0-40 at the time, the 20-year-old was forced to recover a shot from the back of the court and then unleashed a rocket forehand winner after Murray returned his 'tweener'.
