Kiwis push to fight in Aust Defence Force
A lobby group fighting for changes to allow Kiwi citizens to fight in the Australian Defence Force will meet with the federal government on Wednesday.
FairGo4All founder Duncan Sandilands says New Zealanders who have spent most of their lives living and working in Australia can't defend the country they call home because of changes to legislation.
The changes made it more difficult for Kiwi immigrants to Australia after 2001 to become citizens.
"We're ANZACs, we're meant to be embracing each other, not putting up barriers," he said.
Mr Sandilands will meet with Assistant Defence Minister Stuart Robert's chief of staff on Wednesday afternoon.
He says he's met with advisers to Opposition Leader Bill Shorten as well as several crossbench senators and insists they're supportive of the move.
