Parents of abducted Adelaide girl speak out 44 years after daughter's disappearance

Kirste Gordon was just four years old when she was abducted from Adelaide Oval in 1973, along with her friend, 11-year-old Joanne Ratcliffe.

In 44 years, no one has been charged over the girls' disappearance, and suspected murders.

Kirste's parents, Greg and Christine Gordon, have spoken to 9NEWS on the eve of National Missing Persons Week, to highlight how families are impacted when children disappear.   

The pair said they both carry an anger that will never go away, but they do not want revenge on the perpetrator who took their daughter.

They simply want an answer on what happened to Kirste, and where she is now.

Greg and Christine also say their strong marriage, and their two other daughters, helped them survive the trauma of losing a child in the most horrific way.

They remain pragmatic about what they can do to help solve the crime, and that means complete cooperation with South Australian police, for whom they have the ultimate respect.

The search for the girls has been made even more difficult, because there was no crime scene at Adelaide Oval in 1973, and no social media to alert the thousands of people in the area, in those vital first hours after the abduction.

But still, Kirste's parents believe that by keeping their daughter's case in the spotlight, someone will eventually come forward with vital information, and the "evil, opportunistic predator" will one day be brought to justice.
