Prosecutors say they will not seek a life jail term for a Melbourne mother who drowned three of her children by driving into a lake.

However, the prospect of being deported to Sudan hangs over the head of Akon Guode, who came to Australia as a refugee, the Victorian Supreme Court was told during her plea hearing on Thursday.

Guode, 37, has pleaded guilty to the infanticide of one-year-old Bol, the murders of her four-year-old twins, Hanger and her brother Madit, and the attempted murder of her six-year-old daughter Alual.
