Kidney disease is emerging as a silent killer with the vast majority of Australians who have the condition unaware of its existence.

One in three Australians are at risk of developing chronic kidney disease, a report Kidney Health Australia released on Thursday reveals.

But some 1.5 million people don't realise they have a problem since it is possible to lose up to 90 per cent of kidney function without having any symptoms.
