Shaun Kenny-Dowall will not play this weekend following domestic violence charges

Sydney Roosters star Shaun Kenny-Dowall will not play this weekend after agreeing with the club to stand down following his arrest on a string of domestic violence charges.

Kenny-Dowall, 27, was charged with a number of offences including assault and stalking of ex-partner Jessica Peris yesterday afternoon.

The former New Zealand representative was granted conditional bail and will face court next week.

The Roosters released a statement today saying the club's coaching and welfare staff had agreed with Kenny-Dowall that he would not play this afternoon against the New Zealand Warriors.

"This should not in any way be taken as an admission Shaun has done anything wrong and to do so would be incorrect," the statement read.

The NRL had earlier said it was "powerless" to suspend Kenny-Dowall over what remained a "club matter".
