9News recognised for outstanding journalism as Kennedy Awards finalists revealed

9News reporters, producers and camera operators have been recognised for their outstanding journalism with nominations in 10 categories in the prestigious Kennedy Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

Two 9News reporters have been nominated in the category of Outstanding Foreign Correspondent - Senior US Correspondent Amelia Adams and Political Reporter Jonathan Kearsley for his coverage of China, Australia relations.

Amelia Adams has also been nominated in the category of Outstanding TV News Reporting while Chris O'Keefe is a finalist in Outstanding Political Reporting.

Reporter Tara Brown and producer Gareth Harvey have been recognised for Outstanding Crime Reporting for their work with 60 Minutes and A Current Affair reporter Dimity Clancey has been nominated in the Outstanding Regional Broadcast Journalism category for her A Current Affair reports, as have Liz Hayes and Harvey for their story Exposing a rural health system in NSW in crisis.

Hannah Sinclair, another A Current Affair reporter, has also been nominated in the category of Outstanding Nightly Current Affairs. Colleague Steve Marshall has been recognised in the Outstanding Consumer Affairs Reporting category for his work with A Current Affair.

9News Digital are finalists in the Outstanding Online News Breaking category for their coverage of the flood crisis in March.

And Nicholas Richardson has been recognised in the Outstanding TV Camera Work category, with Kamin Gock a finalist in the Young Journalist of the Year category for his work at 9News Perth.

Kate McClymont, of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian's Sharri Markson and Sam Maiden, of news.com.au, are up for the top award, the Kennedy Prize for Journalist of the Year.

"In a really big news year the standard of submissions was exceptional," Kennedy Foundation Chairman Rocco Fazzari said.

The Awards will take place later this year.
