"I'm from a local little town that's a lot like this that went through a similar situation," Perry said.

"Hearing the stories of them evacuating over Christmas and New Year and thinking about all the people that volunteered and their families at that time, it really it close to home."

She had plenty of fans in Bright. 9News

Bright was narrowly spared from the fires, but two evacuations and the lingering heavy smoke haze left the tourist town all but deserted.

Perry's concert in Bright, though, has local accommodation sites booked to capacity.

And local businesses were doing their bit, with Dr Mauve Bar and Lounge rolling out their new Katy Perry cocktail - the Californian Firework.

Perry was embraced by the locals. 9News

And the Bright Brewery's pizza chefs were happy to debut their "Katy Perry peri peri Cajun chicken pizza".

Locals are hoping Perry's star power lingers a little longer.

"I think it reminded me of home and that's why it struck a chord in my heart," Perry said.
