Disqualified drink-driver arrested with five unrestrained children in car

A disqualified drink-driver has been arrested after being found to have five unrestrained children, including three in travelling in the boot of a car, in the Northern Territory.

A male passenger was also arrested for a breach of a suspended sentence.

The arrest occurred during Operation Walker in the town of Katherine, around 300 kilometres south of Darwin.

Operation Walker was focusing on the prevention of youth crime, road safety, drivers of crime and educating residents on how to keep their homes safe, in particular in the lead-up to school holidays.

“Our focus is to continue building a safer Northern Territory and these types of operations are critical to ensure we engage with local residents at a more personal level”, said Superintendent Daniel Shean.

During the operation, 85 drivers were tested, four people taken into protective custody, six traffic infringements issued and one notice to appear.

A total of 21 litres of alcohol was also tipped out.
