A homeless man has been jailed over a "terrifying" attack on Melbourne radio host Kate Langbroek in which he repeatedly kicked her front door as she tried to protect her three children.

Sembata Defa, 37, was armed with a kebab skewer and a metal pole at the time of the attack on Ms Langbroek and her babysitter at the Fox FM host's St Kilda home on the night of March 2.

"You were completely and utterly out of control," Melbourne magistrate Fiona Hayes said today as she jailed Defa for 14 months after he pleaded guilty to assault, trespass and other charges.

Ms Langbroek suffering bruising in the incident, taking to Twitter soon after to describe the ordeal.

“I would like to speak to Martin Foley MP about his plans to stop the degradation of St Kilda hill. Thank you,” she wrote.
