TODAY’s Karl and Lisa return to the classroom for NAPLAN testing

More than one million students across Australia have today participated in the annual NAPLAN testing. 

Students in years three, five, seven and nine put pens to paper for perhaps the last time, with the test to move online next year. 

Also among those taking part, were TODAY hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson. 

“Here’s a question, are Karl and Lisa smarter than your kids?” substitute teacher TODAY entertainment editor Richard Wilkins said. 

The pair was put through its paces, answering questions on spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy – questions similar to what Aussie students will have answered today. 

Lisa correctly answered the first question, which asked her to identify what was wrong with the question: 

Q: “The patient was consious before the operation.” 

She answered “you need to put a ‘c’ in conscious.” 

Karl also nailed his spelling question, correctly spelling the word “pseudonym.” 

They both correctly answered their grammar and punctuation, and numeracy questions, getting perfect scores. 

Students sitting the real examinations will get their results in about three months’ time. 

This process is expected to speed up once online testing comes in, cutting it down from 12 weeks to just two, according to the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority. 

This is the ninth year NAPLAN tests have been held.
