A kangaroo's been spotted "skippy dipping" at a South Australian beach.

Footage has emerged on social media, showing the roo swimming in the ocean at Normanville, on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about an hour south of Adelaide.

It's believed to have occurred this morning.

Amused witnesses filmed the surprise encounter with their phones.

The roo's swim is then followed by possibly the most Australian thing ever, as the kangaroo surfs a wave back into shore.

When it reaches the sand, the kangaroo casually hops away, presumably for a warm cup of Milo.

In a final dramatic act, the kangaroo halted briefly on the shore, turns and gives a very Mick Dundee-like stare back at the camera, before continuing its way.
