Saved by its ears: Roo survives pool drama

A kangaroo that fell into a lap pool at a family home has been plucked to safety in the nick of time.

Hurstbridge woman Allison Glover was shocked when she spotted the large kangaroo desperately trying to stay afloat in her backyard pool this morning.

Ms Glover said she immediately called Wildlife Victoria, who arrived at her home about 15 minutes later.

The rescue team quickly pulled the kangaroo by its ear and then grabbed its legs and pulled it out of the water.

The team wrapped the roo in blankets, before it was taken to a rescue facility in Doreen. It is currently being monitored for hypothermia and fluid in the lungs.

The rescuer told Ms Glover that if the roo had been in the water for as little as five more minutes, it would have likely drowned.
