The jury has started deliberating in the trial of 24-year-old Sydney woman Jessica Silva, who is accused of stabbing her abusive ex-boyfriend to death.

It will be a nervous night for Silva, as the jury decides whether she is guilty of the murder of her ex-boyfriend James Polkinghorne outside the family’s Marrickville home on Mother’s Day in 2012.

The court has been played a series of phone calls in which Polkinghorne, believed to be affected by ice, repeatedly swears and threatens her.

At one point, he says he will “cave her head in”.

The crown seized on a phone call she allegedly made to her brother beforehand where she said she was “sick of it” and she would stab him herself.

The jury will reconsider its deliberations tomorrow morning at the Supreme Court.
