MasterChef star Julie Goodwin has been charged with mid-range drink driving after allegedly attempting to avoid an RBT on the New South Wales Central Coast.

It's alleged Goodwin, who won the inaugural Australian season of the reality cooking show, was driving along the Pacific Highway at Gosford on Thursday night.

Police claim they saw a car approaching a random breath test station before performing a u-turn and driving in the opposite direction.

They followed the car and allegedly found it driven by Goodwin.

She was breath-tested and was arrested for allegedly blowing over the limit.

At the station she allegedly registered a BAC of .107 and was charged.

Goodwin has issued a contrite statement.

"I want to take the opportunity to offer a heartfelt and unreserved apology to my family, my colleagues, and to the broader community," she said.

"I would also like to apologise to everyone that has supported me over many years, I have let you all down.

"I am devastated that I have acted in a way so contrary to what I believe, to how I usually conduct myself, and to what I have taught my children."

Goodwin labelled her alleged behaviour "out of character" and said she was "ashamed".
