Julie Bishop takes 70 diplomats from chilly Canberra to the Top End

Julie Bishop has swapped summits, and bi-lats this week, to play tour guide for Canberra's diplomatic corps, selling Darwin and the Northern Territory to the world.

The Foreign Minister took 70 diplomats from the cold of Canberra to the warmth and wide open space of the Top End, on a two-day swing through business and tourist attractions.

She showed off a buffalo farm, research centre, and the most exciting of all, the Adelaide African Queen to witness the obliging jumping crocodiles.

"It's been a wonderful opportunity to show case Darwin and its geographic location is quite evident," Ms Bishop said.

"Darwin is just a couple of hours away from some of the major cities in Asia.

"And I think the diplomats here have seen the opportunities for more business, more trade, more investment, tourism, and educational exchanges.

"Darwin's location makes it exquisitely positioned to capitalise on the growing economies to the north."
