Australian surfer Josh Kerr has enjoyed one of the biggest triumphs of his career, after winning the inaugural Todos Santos Challenge in Mexico on Sunday.

The 31-year-old was named victor of the third World Surf League Big Wave Tour event with 5 waves in total and a combined score of 24.37

The competition pitted Kerr against 24 of the world’s best big wave surfers, with each facing waves of over 12 metres.

One monstrous wave during the final heat earned Kerr an 8.20, pushing him toward a heat lead and win over American competitor, Greg Long, in the final.

Kerr, who now lives in San Diego, says the title – which qualifies him to run in the 2015/16 season – marks his first event win in five years, and is ecstatic with the result.

“I have had the biggest smile on my face all day,” he said.
