Jetstar Bali flights resume amid ash alert

Jetstar will resume services to Bali after they were cancelled amid fears a volcanic ash cloud made it unsafe to fly.

Jetstar determined it was safe to fly on Friday after the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre downgraded its warning from a code red to a code orange.

"Jetstar will resume services to Bali today," the airline said in a statement.

"We regret the impact these cancellations have had on our passengers, particularly during the busy school holiday period, but we will always put safety before schedule."

A number of flights in and out of Bali were cancelled on Thursday evening and early on Friday after the VAAC raised their ash advisory from code orange to code red amid fears the ash cloud from the Mount Raung eruption in Indonesia was drifting towards Denpasar International Airport.

The latest advisory from the VAAC, issued Friday morning, has returned the assessment to a code orange.

Nine flights on Thursday evening and Friday were affected, and the airline says affected passengers will be given options for alternative services.

Jetstar says it is currently assessing options to put on extra flights to get passengers moving.
