Jet boat driver rescues stranded wallaby

A jet boat driver has pulled a near drowning wallaby to safety while giving a tour of the Gold Coast.

Jamie Earley from GC Jet Boating spotted the marsupial while cruising with his boatload of tourists on October 14.

The terrified animal had dashed into the waters off South Stradbroke Island to escape a dog that was bearing down on it, he said.

As the tourists watched on, Mr Earley carefully guided his high speed craft close enough to the soaked animal for him to rescue it.

With one swift movement, he plucked the exhausted wallaby from the waters and settled him on the bow of the boat.

“It was really relaxed, I put him on the dash of the boat, he was just chilling out,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Mr Earley said he contacted local rangers after returning to shore.
