'Evil genius' continues game show domination

The mastermind dubbed a "mad genius" has continued his domination of the US game show Jeopardy and refused to budge from his controversial tactics that have polarised viewers.

Arthur Chu – who remains unapologetic for his style, which has seen him denounced as "smug", "evil" and "unsportsmanlike" – has amassed more than $US100,000 ($111,007) in winnings so far.

Returning from a four-match winning streak from the start of the month, 30-year-old Chu returned last night and steamrolled past his competition with a pair of $5000 Daily Double bets for his fifth straight win, ABC News reports.

The quiz show genius, who works for an insurance company and as a voice-over actor, has defended his strategy saying Jeopardy is a game of intimidation more than it is about trivia.

"It's not about who knows the answer ... but who can buzz in and spit out that answer the fastest, under pressure," he told The Guardian.

"And in that context, 'throwing opponents off" is very much the name of the game."

Chu says he hasn't been bothered by the criticisms.

"Yeah, a lot of people who know nothing about me hate me for no rational reason but a lot of people who know nothing about me love and admire me, also for no rational reason," he said.

"It's gotten me a way, way bigger fifteen minutes of fame than I ever expected or that any Jeopardy contestant realistically expects.

"God willing there'll be some longer-lasting opportunities that come out from it but even if they don't, this has been one crazy awesome ride."
