Jarryd Hayne will announce on Tuesday he has earned an NFL futures contract, believed to be with the Detroit Lions.
Hayne quit the NRL in October last year to chase his dream of playing top flight football in the United States and that ambition has moved a step closer to reality.
The former Parramatta, NSW and Australian superstar has scheduled a press conference for 2pm on Tuesday at the head office of sponsor Telstra in the Sydney CBD.
There Hayne is expected to confirmed he has earned a futures contract and outline his plans to crack the NFL.
Hayne is understood to have been offered contracts by the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers or Seattle Seahawks, with the Lions believed to have won his services.
But the 27-year-old still has a lot of work to do.
Futures contracts are no guarantee of a spot on an NFL roster, they are merely a foot in the door for players not on active rosters.
They give fringe players, such as Hayne, the chance to crack a team's 53-man roster for the upcoming NFL season.
