Police reviewing video after Jarryd Hayne's supporters allegedly abused victim outside court

Police are reviewing video of Jarryd Hayne's supporters outside court after the woman he was found guilty of sexually assaulting raped was allegedly abused and spat at.

Emotion boiled over as the disgraced footballer was sentenced to at least three years and eight months in prison for the 2018 sexual assault in Newcastle.

After the 33-year-old was taken away in handcuffs, his family and friends gathered, one man accused of hurling expletives at the victim as she left with detectives.

He then allegedly spat in her direction.

Court sheriffs approached the man and others, urging them to settle down, but the same group later became involved in a scuffle with media as Hayne's pregnant wife was ushered to a car.

One photographer claims to have been pinned against the vehicle and gripped in a chokehold.

Detectives are looking at the vision and speaking with witnesses to determine whether any charges can be laid.

Questions are being raised about what court protocols were in place to protect the victim.

She was escorted out of the building during a lunch break but the same treatment was not afforded to her after the sentence was handed down.

A spokesperson for the Department of Communities and Justice says The Sheriff's Office will conduct further training for current officers to ensure they take appropriate steps to protect the privacy of victims."
