Gao's heartbroken girlfriend flies home

The devastated girlfriend of Sydney murder victim Jamie Gao has flown back to her home in Japan.

Gao's body was found late last month wrapped in a blue tarpaulin and floating in waters off the southern suburb of Cronulla after allegedly being shot by two former detectives during a multimillion-dollar drug deal.

Two days later Gao's girlfriend, Japanese student Misaki Takebayashi, and her close friends were seen throwing flowers into the water near where the body was found.

Ms Takebayashi said online she went to the location to farewell her ''baby'', Fairfax Media reports.

She also reportedly threw a heart-shaped note into the ocean and posted a photo online of a necklace she had made with a pendant that held a photo of herself and Gao.

After a private service in Sydney last weekend to farewell Gao, Ms Takebayashi reportedly flew back to Japan to grieve with her family and friends.

Gao, 20, was a business student at the University of Technology, Sydney.

He had faced court one week before his death, charged with abducting a man in Sydney's south ''over a girl'', and was being monitored by police over his alleged involvement with an Asian drug gang.

Former detectives Glen McNamara and Roger Rogerson have been charged with his murder.

Both have been refused bail and appear in court again in July.
