Grungy Sydney icon transformed into 'contemporary' pub
An iconic grungy Sydney pub best known as a late-night destination has reopened as a revamped "contemporary" venue.
Jacksons on George was best known for its sticky floors and hosting late-night soirees but after a five-year closure and a multimillion-dollar renovation, it's coming back with a new look.
The multi-level venue has reopened in the new Sydney Place precinct in Circular Quay hosting art, food, beverages and music in an eye-catching architectural site.

"Great food and drinks intersect with contemporary art and music across all three levels to create a vibrant, contemporary venue," DTL Entertainment Group's entertainment director Maurice Terzini said.
"Our goal was to create a destination that had a broad appeal yet retained a firm identity and we've achieved that."
The three levels - Bistro George, Public Bar and the Rooftop - offer an elevated pub experience, the venue said.

"The ethos at Bistro George is all about recognisable bistro classics, elegantly executed with quality ingredients," head chef Steven Sinclair said.
"Everything on the Public Bar and Rooftop menu is designed to be accessible and familiar.
"Think pub and bistro classics, elevated with the best produce and on-point service, regardless of what dish you order and where you dine."

Don't forget the essential for any pub - the drinks.
From retro pub tipples like the dark and stormy to Italian classics like a Negroni and Bellinis, the pub has it all.
A key focus of the rebuild was refinement and modernisation.
There's plenty of artwork from local artists throughout the venue and even the outside of the venue - with an "architectural veil" - is designed to be striking.
The venue is open seven days a week with bookings available for the Bistro and walk-ins welcomes for the Public Bar and Rooftop.
