In the midst of a search for Australia’s Most Ordinary Rig, TODAY Show sports presenter Tim Gilbert has stripped down to show off his own dad-bod.

Hundreds of Australian men have been donning budgy smugglers and putting their bodies on display on social media in pursuit of the title.

But it was Gilbert who came out on top during an interview with three of the competition’s finalists this morning.

After a small struggle with his buttons, Gilbert ripped of his shirt on-air and paraded his dad-bod across the set.

“Is this really happening?” entertainment editor Richard Wilkins exclaimed.

“Be proud, Timmy, be proud!” co-host Sylvia Jeffreys added.

The Ordinary Rig competition seeks to reward a bloke who is “so ordinary he is extra ordinary”, with the competition website stating “a six-pack is more useful when it’s under your arm”.

One of the finalists, Brisbane’s Nathan Byrne, put his figure down to going as hard at the dinner table as he does at the gym.

“I’ve got a few sponsors, a few of them are fast food restaurants and they really support me,” he said.

Sydney finalist James Behringer, 19, attributed his body to similar lifestyle choices.

“Going to work hungover, you don’t really stop to get an acai bowl from the smoothie shop, you just pull into the servo for a couple of meat pies,” he said.

The winner, dressed in budgie smugglers of course, will be announced at an event at Sydney’s Ivy Pool Bar on October 15.
