Investigation launched after Sydney police officer shot himself in the foot

Police have launched a special investigation after an officer shot himself in the foot during a training exercise at shooting range in Sydney’s south-west today.

The Senior Constable “discharged a firearm into his own foot” shortly before noon, a NSW Police Force statement said.

Police medics arrived about 11.55am and the injured officer was taken to Liverpool Hospital.

His injuries are not life-threatening, the statement advised.

NSW Police Force has launched a critical incident investigation into “all circumstances surrounding the incident”.
