Investigation launched after body found in river

Investigators are working to identify a body found in a river west of Canberra.

Police were called to the Murrumbidgee River, near Stromlo, about 4.30pm yesterday.

Officers found the body partially immersed in water.

 “A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death and the identity of the body,” ACT Policing said in a statement.

Police have not revealed the exact location where the remains were found, or details of the age or gender of the deceased.

The ACT Coroner was called to scene, and is working with police as investigations continue.
