Intelligence committee heads abroad

Members of Australia's parliamentary intelligence committee are heading oversees to assess how other countries deal with dual national terrorists.

In London, Paris and Washington, three members of the parliamentary joint committee on intelligence and security will meet members of intelligence and security agencies as well as counterpart oversight bodies.

They will discuss co-operative approaches to countering violent extremism and radicalisation through social media as well as measures other countries are taking to revoke or suspend citizenship of dual nationals engaged in terrorism.

Committee chair Liberal MP Dan Tehan said the committee was examining controversial legislation which sets out circumstances in which dual nationals are deemed to have lost their Australian citizenship.

"Several other countries have enacted similar measures and the delegation will be consulting on the process and impact of these measures," he said in a statement.
