An inside look at this year's Melbourne Cup Carnival Birdcage

The Birdcage marquee is promising to be bigger than ever this year with dancing unicorns, fireworks and installations all set for the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The exclusive area is all about opulence, with 10 installations over 18,000 square metres and 100,000 glasses of champagne to be served throughout the carnival.

It was inspired by this masthead's iconic nine dots and boasts a hidden bar.

"Bigger, better, you could want for nothing in this marquee," Australian model Bec Judd said.

"It's a real treat for people to come to the races and enjoy watching the races and seeing the track from these wonderful structures," Victoria Racing Club chairman Neil Wilson said.

Elsewhere, orchestras and DJs will keep everyone entertained.

"Is there any party like a club rosado party? It is absolutely amazing in there," Don Julio MCC Ambassador Rozalia Russian said.

While the big marquees are only open to VIP guest lists, the public can buy tickets to The Birdcage and access secret bars.

"You don't get this kind of birdcage set up anywhere else in the world," Nine's sports commentator Francesca Cumani said.

"Australia I keep saying it does it better than anywhere else."

Nine is the official broadcast partner of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which can be watched on Channel 9 and 9Now.
