Inquiry to focus on disabled kids' safety

A school for disabled children and two disability support services will be the focus of a national inquiry into child sex abuse.

The inquiry by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse will be held in Sydney in July.

It will explore the experiences of a woman who was sexually abused as a child at Mater Dei School located in Camden, NSW, and look into what happened to a number of women who were sexually abused as children while in the care of the Gold Coast Family Support Group (now FSG Australia).

The responses of the Mater Dei School and the Catholic religious order - The Sisters of the Good Samaritan of the Order of Saint Benedict - will also be scrutinised.

The commission will also hear about the experience of a man who was sexually abused as a child while in the care of The Disability Trust at Shoalhaven, NSW.

The bodies who run these services will be asked to explain their policy procedures and practices around exporting, investigating and acting on abuse allegations as well as what they did to support the victims.

The inquiry starts in Sydney on July 11.
