Overseas student changes pass Senate

The Senate has passed legislation to cut red tape for education providers of overseas students after Labor succeeded in making several amendments.

Labor's amendments sought to retain the requirement that providers maintain a designated account as a source of funds available to refund students if the provider ceases operating.

The legislation must now go back to the lower house for approval.
